Bad Habit by J.T. Geissinger

Okay, I’ll come right out and say it—this series is pretty close to what’s colloquially called smut. I hate that word though, it makes it seem as though the book being described is literally only about sex and just spends its pages thinking of new ways to describe a penis. I don’t really read books like that and you’ll never find them on my blog. What so many people miss about books like this is the actual depth of the characters and situations being described. Now, I won’t lie, this one isn’t the deepest one in my library; you’ll see some of the others that win that title as time goes on.

This series follows a trio of girlfriends who live in Hollywood. Well, at least I think it’s Hollywood; at the very least, they have run-ins and do jobs for movie stars and around the movie business. The first one starts with a particular job one of the girls goes on; she’s a makeup artist and is supposed to be doing the makeup for a music video for the hottest band around named Bad Habit. Cue series name.

While on the job, she has an encounter with the super attractive lead singer and the rest, as they say, is history. The other two books are the stories of her two girlfriends also finding love with other members of the band.

Now, aside from the raunchy scenes, there are some very serious themes and moments in these books. I don’t give that warning from the beginning lightly—be prepared to see some of the worst of (fictional) people. My personal favorite of the series is the second one that shows an abuser getting his comeuppance.

I think my favorite part of this series is the way the chemistry between the characters is written. Sparks fly and emotions sizzle and you can see perfectly how each couple helps each other out and makes each other better.

Even with all its darkness, it’s an easy read, full of fun relationships and situations that will make you say, “What? There’s no way!” Good for evenings when you want a little bit of sizzle and a good bit of heart!
